The Power of Ultrasound Diagnostics for Pain Management

When you see the word “ultrasound,” you probably think of a happy couple pouring over a fresh sonogram with an image of their growing loved one. But did you know that ultrasound can be used for much more than seeing babies in the womb? It’s also a powerful diagnostic tool that can show your exact source of pain. And by knowing your exact source of pain, it can be treated and healed so you can return to living your life pain-free, naturally.

How does ultrasound work?

In basic terms, ultrasound is a noninvasive imaging test. High-frequency sound waves create pictures or videos in real time that show internal organs and soft tissue. This allows healthcare professionals to see details in your body without invasive and painful incisions. Unlike CT scans and x-rays, ultrasound does not use radiation (which has been found to have terrible effects).

When receiving an ultrasound, a healthcare professional uses a device called a transducer on the body part receiving the ultrasound. A thin layer of gel is applied to your skin that allows the transducer to transmit the high-frequency sound waves through the gel. The sound waves convert the waves into electrical signals which are then converted into a live image or video that you see on a computer. If you have kids or siblings, you’re familiar with the classic gray and black image that appears on the screen.

Detecting more than just your little ones in the womb

Ultrasound technology is a powerful tool for diagnosing pain management. Utilizing ultrasound with patients allows medical providers to examine your body when you’re in pain or something isn’t working correctly. In most cases the transducer is placed on your skin but may need to be placed inside your body in certain cases. You can receive ultrasound on almost any part of your body, including:

  • Knees, shoulders, and ankles: for acute and chronic pain
  • Pelvis: for taking a closer look at your bladder, ovaries, prostate, or other organs in the surrounding area
  • Abdomen: for diagnosing abdominal pain
  • Thyroid: for measuring the size of your thyroid and looking for nodules
  • Tendons, joints, and muscles: for inserting injections to treat pain
  • And more

Because ultrasound is versatile, it’s been used to detect a myriad of conditions, including:

  • Damaged or torn soft tissue
  • Inflammation
  • Blood clots
  • Kidney stones
  • Tumors
  • And more

With modern scientific advancements, ultrasound has been discovered to be useful for conditions that were previously treated with other methods. According to a paper published in 2020, low-intensity ultrasound (LIUS) has been approved for accelerated fracture healing and for treatment of low complexity fractures. What else will science discover that this tool can be used for?

What is ultrasound diagnostics?

Ultrasound diagnostics play a key role in MedLink Health Solution’s process to guide you on your path to natural healing. At our clinic, ultrasound is our guide for properly diagnosing you and treating you so you can return to living a pain-free life.

Ultrasound technology for diagnosing injuries

Traditional doctor’s offices will evaluate you with an x-ray, MRI, or CT scan. Although these images are useful, that’s exactly what they are–still images. They do not allow your medical provider to see the exact source of your pain and require some guesswork. Luckily, ultrasound takes out the guesswork completely. Because the ultrasound is seen live on the computer, we can see exactly what movements are hurting you and what’s causing you pain. By knowing the source of your pain we can properly diagnose and treat you.

Ultrasound diagnostics for pain management

After you’ve received a proper and accurate diagnosis, your treatment plan is created. Although our bodies are created similarly, no body lives the same as anyone else. At our clinic, you undergo an extensive evaluation with your physician to discover the root of your issues and how they can be improved. We take into consideration several factors during your evaluation including your age, diet, exercise habits, genetics, mental health state, goals, and more. Once we have your detailed health history, we create a treatment plan that’s customized to you so you can get back to the quality of life you deserve.

Regenerative therapy for pain relief

The next step on your journey to wellness is regenerative therapy. Regenerative medicine has a wide array of therapies, and ultrasound is often used as the stepping stone. With an accurate diagnosis, you can now be treated for your pain.

Regenerative medicine is an incredible branch of medicine that utilizes your body’s natural ability to heal itself. Our bodies were made intelligently and get to work as soon as we’re injured. Sometimes though, our bodies need some help and that’s where regenerative therapy comes in.

When you’re injured, your body responds with inflammation. This inflammation is a good thing because your body is working hard to get things back to normal–or as close to normal as it can. Do you have an old injury that’s months or years old that still gives you problems? That can be healed with regenerative therapy.

By utilizing your body’s natural ability to heal itself and pairing it with scientific advancements, regenerative medicine can not only treat your pain but it can heal it. The products we use are specifically formulated to advance soft tissue repair, replacement, and reconstruction. Regenerative therapies are commonly used to repair damaged soft tissues but can also be used as a preventative medicine for keeping your joints healthy. Years can be added to your life with these amazing therapies, and at MedLink Health Solutions we are with you every step of the way.
